The Arc'teryx Men's Gamma MX Jacket is, in my incredibly biased opinion, one of the best soft shells on the market. My bias comes from the fact that everything Arc'teryx puts out is of the highest quality and from my few years owning a Gamma MX jacket. This versatile soft shell mid-layer utilizes Arc'teryx's Fortius 2.0 fabric to achieve the perfect balance of mobility, style and elemental protection. I bought it for the style; the fact that it sheds rain, blocks wind and is super warm are just bonuses (bonuses that come in handy in inclement weather). Whatever your needs, this jacket will suit them.

ARC'TERYX ATHLETIC FIT: The Arc'teryx Athletic Fit garments are considered their "standard" fit and feature complex patterns that utilize anatomical shaping and gussets to enhance motion and eliminate any excess bulk. Athletic fit styles are trimmer than Arc'teryx relaxed fit styles, but still offer room for a base layer, a light fleece mid-layer, and a synthetic or down filled mid-layer. Put simply, their Athletic Fit should fit true to size, but be sure to check out the size guide to learn how to calculate your body measurements before selecting a size.

I got this jacket in November. I was worried a Large may not fit me well. I was wrong. It fits great. I am 6'0 tall, 192lbs. with broad shoulders. This can be problematic for me at times. It fits me so well. I like how close it fits my core. We spent a week up in the Sierra Nevada mountains and lakes. It performed better than I thought it would. It is surprisingly warmer than I thought it would. I wore a plain white t-shirt underneath most of the time and it kept me warm enough. Although I will say, I can't see layering anything thicker than a smartwool baselayer underneath. The insulated lining on the inside collar is great. Soft on my skin and warm. Also, I had great flexibility hiking with this piece. I sometimes forgot I had it on. Really! My cousin is apart of the Search and Rescue so I spent extensive time in the Sierra Nevada's. The jacket kept me very dry in the rain. It is nearly windproof but not quite. This jacket is a great alternative to a hardshell. Get one! I love mine!!
I can't understand how this was rated so well. I expected a $300 jacket to provide at least *some* warmth. The Gamma MX failed at that. Hard. It's only good for temps 55F and up. I tried it out initially on a 45F day and the cold soaked through immediately like it was a long sleeve t-shirt and not a fleece lined jacket. The next day was the same temp plus a medium wind. I added a PolarTec fleece under it to see if that would help. It didn't. I only looked puffy. Wind pushes the warmth out even faster. Forget about using the pockets to keep your fingers warm. The pockets (except the arm) are mesh inside and will act like a vent purging any warmth from inside. The sleeves are a bit too long and the stretch cuffs are a tad too narrow so taking the thing on and off is awkward when it comes to getting your hands through. It does look good, allows great range of motion and sheds sprinkles easily. I will be sending it back for a refund though.
I was initially scared by the price tag but this jacket is one of the few pieces of clothing I've never regretted buying. The arms can be a bit long. The "elastic" isn't as stretchy as it should be. But otherwise it's fantastic. Comfortable fleece microlining. Decently water resistant shell material. Two chest pockets where most jackets only give you two. That weird upper left arm pocket (presumably for ski passes) that literally never gets used.Buy it. You won't regret it. I've had mine for years and it still looks brand new.
"This jacket is good looking and breathable"
Fell in love with the unique design of the jacket. The two chest pockets and logo really set it apart from the crowd. Its sporty and handsome. I use it for hiking , walking and for going around town. These things aren't cheap, but I love Arc'teryx
I upgraded to this from my old Marmot Gravity softshell. All I can say is, wow! I thought my old one was good, but this thing is pretty amazing! It is everything that you would expect from Arc'teryx. The fit is fantastic. I am pretty skinny and it is hard for me to find jackets that fit well, but this one is absolutely spot on. Definitely designed for an athletic build. My only gripes with this jacket are that the neck is a little wide for everyday use, but it does fold down nicely into a collar. The sleeves also don't have any Velcro, which can make them hard to get over a watch, but one you do, they fit really nicely. The shell fabric is top notch. Stretchy to allow for movement, but with a really nice hand, and quite breathable. The DWR works really well too; sheds light rain quite well. The fleece lining is pretty thin, but it is the perfect weight for 4-season wear in California. Just as versatile in the city as in the woods. Pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for!
I am a big fan of softshells due to their breathability and this is the highest quality softshell in existence. The seams, zippers, construction, and fabric is all cearly top notch and it couldnt' fit any better. It looks tailored and professional regardless of if you are a dirtbag or not. The gamma is excellent and while most of my other gear has a place and climate of use, this is the jacket that spans them all and is the most versatile.
This is an awesome jacket. Arc'teryx really got this one right. Perfect weight for Fall and Spring, and even wore through the winter with a base layer. Well made, expect to last. I have already worn it for a year, washed it once, and it looks new.
