ARC'TERYX ATHLETIC FIT: The Arc'teryx Athletic Fit garments are considered their "standard" fit and feature complex patterns that utilize anatomical shaping and gussets to enhance motion and eliminate any excess bulk. Athletic fit styles are trimmer than Arc'teryx relaxed fit styles, but still offer room for a base layer, a light fleece mid-layer, and a synthetic or down filled mid-layer. Put simply, their Athletic Fit should fit true to size, but be sure to check out the size guide to learn how to calculate your body measurements before selecting a size.

I have not been able to put this jacket to good use yet, but it looks fabulous and seems totally bombproof! ;-)I was worried about the size and not sure whether I should size up a little bit or not for layering. I am glad I did not: there is plenty of room for layering but it still looks gorgeous with just a thin layer. The length is great too. My Alpha SV size S fit perfectly over a sweater and Hyllus size M. Thank you to the Moosejaw online help to pull one up while we were chatting so we could better figure out how it would fit. That really helped!
I LOVE this jacket! I love the minimalism that Arc'teryx is known for. No fluff in this piece but it is super burly and just about bulletproof! I've used it running, hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing, alpine/backcountry skiing, ice climbing, snow shoeing just about anything you can think of, and this jacket has never let me down! It's pretty lightweight, and keeps me warm when I'm active. I love the long pit-zips that cool me off when I get too warm. The cross-pockets are a plus and they're big. There are a couple of internal pockets that can hold your phone or electronics closer to your body to keep them warm. I would purchase this jacket again! Worth the $.
"Great jacket with clean, intuitive design"
I bought this jacket to replace a TNF jacket I had used for several years and have been very happy with the fit and minimalistic design of this jacket. It's extremely waterproof and has cleanly designed interior and exterior pockets. As others have said, the pockets take a little getting used to as your hand must cross your chest to access the exterior chest pockets. Jacket is light and durable (so far).
We are owning two Alpha SV Jackets (one women's and one men's) - this first of which we have bought roughly 10 years ago. There is a reason why this is the top-of-the line product of Arcteryx. Despite the overall (in our opinion) decline in quality of Arcteryx-products (we had issues with peeling fleece-jackets, torn zippers etc.) this still is THE top Goretex-Jacket on the market. (Still and hopefully forever) made in Canada, the quality of this Jacket is outstanding. The seals, zippers, hood etc. are rock-solid and well-made.It may sound strange but the thought of having this Jacket in our backpack even makes an upcoming thunderstorm a pleasure (without the lightning though). :-)
I just wanted to insert my two cents here as I work in the industry and have 5 Arc'teryx jackets including this one. In response to the person that gave the jacket 3 stars questioning the zipper, the zipper is WATERPROOF, and that zipper alone costs about $75. The jacket is also made in Canada to protect Arc's proprietary technologies that go into it, thusly the high cost... Bottom line: I would be hard pressed to find a more bomber hard shell anywhere on this planet. Keep it up Arc'teryx (would also recommend the Sidewinder SV if you are in primarily snow conditions)
I recently bought the Alpha SV shell for my wife and she is absolutely in love with the jacket. The jacket is able to be used in the winter to keep the wind and snow out. Later on in the year the jacket will be able to be used in the spring and fall. Arcteryx quality and performance is light years beyond others in outfitting. Also, for those with a bit longer arms than the norm, Arcteryx jackets will fit very well – athletic fit, gusseted arms, breathable, quality construction, and waterproof. In short, Arcteryx gear performs as stated. Pricy, but worth every cent in my opinion. Thanks Moosejaw for lightening-fast shipping and a painless purchasing experience!
I bought this coat for my husband and myself originally to go sailing on Lake Michigan and fend off rain and wind. I'm very petite and found the xs size to fit perfectly - slim cut through the body. We've used it for camping, hiking, sailing and walking around windy Chicago. It's been great for all of the weather we've encountered. Worth every penny!
I recently borrowed this jacket off a friend and was so impressed i coughed up and brought one for myself! Although its pricey, i get very cold and need a hardcore jacket, and this one doesnt dissapoint. Its sizing are fairly generous, although across the shoulders can be a little tight. I got a large and can fit a layer of two underneath, which is what i wanted. Overall, great jacket (despite the price tag)
