"excellent bright light, and light to carry"
I love this thing. It is the brightest LED headlamp I've ever purchased. The BD Icon is in a class somewhat by itself. The other main headlamps in this class; PTec Apex, Mammut X-zoom and X-shot, and Petzl Myo do not offer both both red and white light with a rear battery pack and the level of adjustability. The Icon fits well, the front portion is light weight and the switch is glove usable though not friendly. The one question with the new BD Icon will be durability. It does feel slightly less robust than the Apex. The other factor which will probably not matter to many folks is beam quality. The Icon puts out a beam that is uniform in brightness and shape. Especially when compared to say a Zebra light (which is not surprising). Even when compared to my Petzls and PTecs, the beam on the Icon is better. Given the positive factors I have mentioned, you should have someone buy this Head-Lamp. It has awesome battery life.
This headlamp is awesome! I got it because I heard it has a high lumen output and long lasting battery life. They weren't kidding. Black Diamond's adjustable brightness is wicked easy to use while on the move. The light gets bright enough that I've started choosing the headlamp over a handheld flashlight, especially since the batteries are AA and not the expensive CR123's, and they last so long. I've had the light on it's highest setting all night trekking through the woods, and it's got me out of a jam a few times. The Icon Headlamp always makes it into my pack, it's definitely worth the space.
"A little heavy but ridiculously bright and long lasting"
This is my first headlamp but I got it after a lot of research and I love it so far (I've been using it for night runs). It's got a lot of options to fit just about any scenario and is comfortable despite the battery pack. the only thing about this headlamp that is a little annoying is the fact that there's only one button to control everything but once you're over that this becomes very easy to use and change, dim, or brighten your lighting.
This is the brightest headlamp I have ever used... This is simply an awesome headlamp. If you need as many lumens as you can get, this is the headlamp for you. The icon hasd a whopping 200 lumens! I used it to summit Mt. Pisco in Peru and was very impressed. Here is my brief video review:http://www.backpackersreview.com/gear-reviews/everything-else/87-gear-review-black-diamond-icon-headlamp
