i've been eyeing this anorak for a while now and i finally pulled the trigger on the red version. my original order was for an XL, but it went back because it was FAR too big. I just received the L and i am absolutely in love. The coat is unlined, but still loose enough to fit a bunch of layers underneath if i want (at least a baggy sweater, fleece or hoodie + baselayers) and the length and hood make it a contender for all-winter wear. the pockets are roomy, the hand pockets connect through with a phone/ipod pocket within that pocket, plus the kangaroo pocket. The side zips go from the bottom and the top, so you can zip up to get in, zip down if you need to access hoodie pockets while its on. plus, the detailing and construction can't be beat. just make sure you size down. i'm a solid XL in just about anything else, and i was swimming in it. also, length-wise: i'm 5'9 with a long torso and the L still comes down past my butt.
I now live in Boulder, CO, frequently visit family and friends back home in rainy Seattle, and am preparing for some travels to Iceland. I needed a jacket that could handle all of these places, and I think this is the one! The material has already held up well under snow - kept me completely dry and is quick to repel water. While it's not the snuggest jacket ever, the lightweight feel makes it a multi-season jacket that I think will be excellent for travel. And, throwing on a thick wool sweater or other insulated top nicely adds to the jacket's warmth. Not to mention, this jacket is pretty much the cutest thing ever. I feel like I could easily fit in in a city or on the tundra. Just what I wanted!
"DROP YOUR MOOSE JAW TO THE FLOOR AND YOU GOT THIS!"
I'VE BEEN WAITING A LONG TIME FOR THE PERFECT ANORAK AND THIS MAY BE IT! THE BIG POCKET IS A MUST FOR WINTER WATCHING, JUST POP IN YOUR CAMERA/ BINOCS AND LEAVE THE STRAP WHERE IT SHOULD BE. SNUG DOWN THE HOOD AND YOU'RE READY FOR JANUARY SEAL WATCHING. TWEAK THE FIT WITH THE TWO WAY UNDER ZIPS AND SQUATTING IN THE WOODS TAKING RIVER SAMPLES (WE'RE TALKING WATER QUALITY TESTING, NOT EUPHEMISM) ACTUALLY SEEMS QUITE COMFORTABLE. THIS IS NOT LINED OR INSULATED, PERFECT FOR VARIABLE NEW ENGLAND AND EXPANDS ITS SEASON FOR USE. HONESTLY, IT'S THE CUTEST THING SINCE SWISS CHEESE AND VERY, VERY WELL DESIGNED. IF YOU WANT MORRIS BELLS, THEY'RE ALL ON HERE! THE OLIVE IS A LOVELY TREE BARK COLOR. THE RUFF IS DEEPLY INTRIGUING TO THE CATS. AND THE FIT IS VERY GENEROUS SO ORDER DOWN AND YOU STILL HAVE ROOM TO LAYER. THE CROTCH STRAP SEEMS MORE THAN I WILL EVER NEED BUT FIND THAT I CAN LOOP IT HIGHER UP TO THE TAG LOOP AND IT LAYS FLAT INSTEAD OF LOOPING OVER MY BUTT AND MARRING MY ASSETS. ~BEAR
"Superbly made and stylish jacket perfect for hiking and wearing around town"
I ordered this anorak to replace the Fjallraven Lukka Down Cape, which I loved the look of but when it arrived it was huge and just didn't fit well- though it was really well made.I am on average a UK size 10 and I ordered the XS which fit perfectly and allowed for my 4 month pregnancy bump with room to spare for some growth! The thoughtful details on the jacket are excellent from the strap on the back of the hood (I hate it when hoods fall over my eyes) to the double kangaroo pocket. The material is obviously hard wearing though the jacket itself isn't heavy when you are wearing it.I've not walked properly in the jacket in the rain yet (currently live in California but going back to the UK in the spring) but the material is well waxed though not smelly like some other brands (such as Barbour) often are. I will buy some extra wax for use on the shoulders as it gets worn but in the first instance this won't be needed. Think I'll have this jacket for years!
