I do volunteer work for the Dept of Fish and Game; stocking trout in mountain lakes. When we are scheduled to stock a lake, we go rain or shine, so I need good rain gear. Since I am already carrying a lot of weight with the fish in water, light weight gear is very nice. There is no doubt that this jacket is very light. The only remaining question is how will it hold up to repeated use. I have only had it a short time now; so far so good.
Replaced my barely breathable and super heavy soft shell with the Marmot Super Mica on my hike up Mt Fuji (summer). This jacket totally blew me away... super light, but fully featured with decent hood, pit zips and check pockets.I did most of the trip with just a thermal layer and the Super Mica on top, pit zips opened for max ventiliation. Theres no lining to "soak" up body vapor, but it makes it super campactable. It didn't rain on my trip but not doubts as to waterproofness and breathability is more than acceptable... at least on par to my other 3 layer Goretex XCR... at a fraction of the weight and pack space. Now the wife wants one!!
"Light weight breathable water proof full featured Jacket"
Super Mica is a full-featured jacket at a super light weight. My small size Jacket is less than 8oz. It is fully water proof and somewhat breathable. Both Pit zips and front pocket can vent the extra heat out when needed. I am 5'6 and 145 lbs, small fits very well and I still can fit my mountain hardware ghost whisper under the shell. This is one of the best rain jacket I have ever owned, better than most of the gore-tex jacket I have.
