I love this pack. Now, I hike fairly lightweight (20-25 lbs), but not super light, and this supports weight wonderfully for me. The frame really does a good job of keeping your back cool, though your shoulders and waist will most definitely still get sweaty. There are lots of pockets to organize stuff, and I've always had plenty of room left to fit more (even with stuff for two people). There are a couple main downsides to the bag for me:1. You can not use water bottles in the side pocket. It is not humanly possible to reach back and take them out yourself. Luckily, it is easy to get Osprey's bladder in and out with stuff already in the bag, but still a bit of a hassle since the sleeve is internal, and probably near impossible if you have another bladder.2. The waist straps are LONG.I'm a smallish guy, but the amount of excess waist strap was ridiculous. They hung all the way to my knees. I actually took the bag to a tailor and had them cut a foot from each side.
I used this pack for a 10 day thru hike of the Northville-Placid Trail in the Adirondacks. I couldn't have made a better decision. While it isn't UL, it is definitely light without sacrificing any of the bells and whistles that one would expect at a premium price point such as this one. Everything is adjustable to fit and can be made super comfortable for virtually anyone. I especially love the air flow through the back -- No more sweat back! This is just a serious winner and I was delighted to also learn (as is this my first Osprey pack) that all Osprey packs are guaranteed for life. No need for proof of purchase and no cut off date. If an Osprey pack rips, tears, or breaks in any way, send it in and they will repair or replace it no questions asked!
I have a few packs in the house and this is my favorite. It is super light weight and durable at the same time defiantly big enough for at least a couple of days worth of gear. On top of that it's comfortable you can put on a lot of miles with a lot of gear and it still feels great. A must have pack!!
I have hiked since 1972 and this pack is by far the best I've ever worn! Body forming move w/o restriction, easy to adjust, hipbelt adjustment is great, compression really holds crap together, and the stuff it pocket is great for old disorganized hikers and keeps that t.p. super handy!! I ordered this from MJ as there are no quality hiking shops here, and it fit so well, I ordered an Osprey Stratos for a daybag but it is large enuff for a one-nighter! The fit of the frames seems to do therapy to an old back and that helps at the end of the day sittin in camp!
I loaded up and tried on countless packs in store before deciding this was the best fit for me. I have had this pack for close to a year now and have gone on many climbing trips. Purchasing this has greatly improved the overall quality of all the trips I took this year. A pack that properly distributes the weight of all your gear can drastically improve your performance at the crag. Say goodbye to sore shoulders and back! Pockets in all the right places and sooooo much storage space. I frequently load my pack with a 70m rope, full sport rack, 2 pairs of shoes, multiple ATCs and PAS, 3L of water, helmet, rain jacket, r1 fleece, and guidebooks with room to spare! The only apparent wear so far is from a snag on the stretchy front pocket. Nothing that compromises the integrity. This pack has many years of adventure ahead of it!
"Lightweight, roomy, functional, tough and comfortable"
I haven't had much time to spend with this product but from what time I have spent with it I would recommend it to anyone! The Osprey Atmos 65 Pack is everything you need in a backpack and more. I've used it for day hikes, through hikes and a few overnight hikes so far and its preformed better than I ever expected. Before purchasing this item I spent a good amount of time watching / reading reviews online, so I had a good idea about what I was getting into. What I didn't expect was just how much room this pack has in it! This pack has one big main pocket I use for my sleeping bag, cook wear, towel, food, hammock and bug net; a header pocket that is perfect for toiletries and snacks; two side pockets I use for water; a "drying" pocket at the front of the pack I use for items that have gotten wet; a split pocket for clothing and two little pockets on the waste band perfect for a multitool, little flashlight and phone / compass.
I needed a good fitting pack for a weeklong trip on the West Coast Trail in Canada. Most men's packs are a little large on me, and buying a women's pack would just be... well... Superior ventliation, light weight, feature laden. The list goes on. During the ladders of the trail (nearly 70), The stow on the go trekking pole feature saved me time and made access easy. The hipbelt pockets stored cliff bars (tight, but well). The large stretch pocket fit my crocs for stream crossings, and organizer pockets fit raingear to keep it separated. Waterbottle pockets were convenient and easy to use, and stowed tent poles well. The odd looking curve to this pack serves an ingenious purpose. Rather than contorting when you are leaning forward or working a hill, the pack follows the contours of your back. I had no pack bounce or bending, and found the fit to be perfect. 3lbs is a great weight for a 65L pack. A great expedition pack- I did the WCT with 24lbs, largely because of this pack.
"Best backpacking pack I have ever owned or tried on"
Love this pack tons. I have used it for 3 years now. Holding up strong. Some tears in the mesh hip pockets, but does not degrade or hurt the pack. It's been through some miles! I've talked two friends into this pack and they love'em just as much. Great fit, great mesh in the bag, super light, awesome features.
"Great pack, even better with this year's model."
I bought this pack two years ago and it's been used about a dozen times so far. I love the layout with all of it's pockets and compartments. Comfortable to wear for extended periods on long days. I was in the shop yesterday and looking over the latest model and it looks even better. I can't recommend this pack enough.
I have been backpacking for 40 plus years, and this year I am going to get my winter gear pack under 50 lbs. This pack is well laid out with lots of room. Got everything in it or on it and I am now at 47 lbs. This is a great start, and I plan on cutting the weight even more. Don't be afraid of ordering a pack that doesn't work out. I order what I thought was just the right one, and I couldn't get my stuff in it. Moosejaw took it back with no problems and I now have the pack that will work for me.
I bought this for a 2 week backpacking trip through Europe. I tried some of the women's bags, but found that this one felt the best. Overall, I was able to pack a ton of clothes and necessary items in it and walk around with it on my back for hours at a time. Even when I was packing 30 pounds in the bag, it was still fairly comfortable. The support and suspension it has is great. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who needs a bag around the 60-70l size.
"Great pack with lots of room to put stuff."
My only concern about this pack was size. I took a chance and it fit. I'm 6'1 190-ish and the Large fits great on my hips. It sheds water well, although I do plan on getting a pack cover. There are plenty of pockets and loops to put your gear. Also, the Oxide Red isn't nearly as bright as it looks in the picture. It's more of a Brick Red.
