The Men's Stand Up Short by Patagonia are made from rugged 10-oz organic cotton canvas to thwart climbing's abusive tendencies. They're rugged yet comfortable, and with three available inseams, you can get them the length you feel best in. Doubled fabric in the seat increases durability and forms two rear pockets; a set-in pocket holds a wallet. The hardworking canvas softens and personalizes with age.

for the Patagonia Men's Stand Up Short 7 Inch Inseam
I bought these for my dad for xmas and thought he'd love them. I have the same shorts in the 5 in inseam and love them so much I bought another pair. Unfortunately, my dad's legs have gotten a bit skinnier over the years (that whole losing muscle mass when you get older thing) and he has some serious chicken legs these days. These shorts brought some unsolicited attention to this reality of life so he asked me to return them.
"BEST SHORTS FOREVER... As long as you luck out on the waist size... :("
Dear Fellow Searchers,Listen, I've been a hardcore wearer of Patagonia clothing and gear for over twenty years now - especially the "way back then" (5" length) and now even the (7") STAND-UP WALKING SHORTS. A pair of Stand-Ups, some worn out Rainbows, and whatever t-shirt didn't stink too much like the night before was the extent of my wardrobe in the 90's. Flash forward ten years - even now, the (7") Stand-Ups are all I wear / will ever wear in terms of shorts (besides my boardies, of course). The problem I, and a couple friends who all still wear them religiously, is that there there has been a steadying increase in the MAJOR inconsistencies in waist sizing. You literally have no idea if you should buy 34's or 36"? It's frustrating to say the least...Barry
I work at a summer camp, and I wear my stand up shorts almost every day. I can't say enough about how durable they are. I am often in a harness for the ropes course, and the shorts haven't shown any wear. If they get wet, these shorts dry ultra-fast. Not only are Patagonia Stand Up shorts durable, they look great and I can wear them in any atmosphere and they go with everything. Unfortunately, they do shrink just a little bit over time. However, that may be because I wash them about a million times a week. Overall, these are great shorts that I absolutely recommend.
Fantastic fit, yes, I will order more. Now my Wonderful wife wants a pair. The 7in inseam is perfect, about 2 inches above my knee, I am 6ft. Thankyou Moose for fast service.CBH Georgetown, KYPS gotta to go, I just saw Bigfoot in my back yard!!!
Full disclosure: I like 5in inseams; 5 in. Stand Ups are kinda hard to find so I buy the 7in ones and have 'em tailored. I have had all kinds of shorts: Royal Robbins Billy Goats, Columbia Half Moons, Polo Andrews, Chubbies. Of all the shorts-- these Stand Ups are the most durable & after a bit of use, the most comfortable. I am 5'11 about 185lbs with muscular legs & the fit is perfect. The back pockets are very convenient & add a layer of toughness. I cannot say enough about the durability of these shorts. I have literally skid on asphalt with these (small motorcycle wreck) & thought they were ruined due to grime and dirt; it all came out in one wash and was good as new. Buy em!!
I have gotten to the point where my wardrobe consists of enough Patagonia shorts to make it Monday to Monday. Not all of them are this type but most are. I love these shorts especially. I have taken some on extended expeditions which involved swimming, trekking, rolling in dirt, mud, sand or whatever and love everything about them. Get yourself 5 pairs. Seriously. Thick and sturdy shorts.
With eight stellar reviews, I was prepared to be impressed. Nope. A few comments to help shoppers: the fabric is incredible - feels like it would be very durable. The back pockets are enormous and look nothing like I've seen on men's shorts before (or want to again). Perhaps if you're moving out of an apartment and don't want to buy boxes, it would be handy - but unnecessary (and unflattering) for those who own a home. (you know what I mean) Also, the legs of the shorts flare in a way that only Jack from Three's Company could appreciate. Sorry, Patagonia - I wanted to love you.
These shorts are bullet proof - I've owned a few different pairs of the Stand Up over the years and they are my go to short for all kinds of activities, whether it's a good spring ski day, a long hike or just hanging around doing nothing. The shorts are of great quality - rugged fabric that wears very well and they're cut to fit just right. There is no waste of fabric or bulkiness that so many other shorts tend to have - if I had to choose one short to wear for the rest of my life, it would be the Stand Up.
These shorts are the best ever. I've bought them for my husband for many years now. We went from 5" back when shorter was o.k., now buy 7" as we are a little "older" now and longer shorts are in. Can't seem to find any shorts that come close to Patagonia Stand-Up Shorts. They are durable for work (construction) and classy for play. It takes a lot to wear them out (we have worn a few pair out, but it takes years of hard work & play, plus lots of washings)... and these shorts wash and dry beautifully! I buy several pairs when I can find them on sale. They are a good buy at regular price, but on sale, they rock! We have yet to find a close second.
