I bought the Torrentshell pant for a good, light rain pant to take backpacking and it is perfect for the job. It is light enough that I always carry it, where I use to only carry my rain pants during monsoon season. Through hiking in rain for hours, crossing rushing rivers, and kneeling in mud they have stood up to the test. While they have held up great so far, I always take care to avoid down brush. They lack the double knees and more durable seams of heavier hardshell pants, but if you are looking for something to keep you comfortable in the rain, these pants are great!
These pants are very thin and they're not as "noisy" as I expected they'd be. Very comfortable, very practical. I love that they fold up to practically nothing and take up very little space. Perfect for throwing over your favorite hiking pant when that downpour hits!
If you're looking for an all around awesome, packable rain pant - This is it! Great fit, tighter through the legs (which mean less snagging if you're a hiker like me), rip stop, plenty of pockets, excellent water proofing, and they can be rolled into a nice little ball. Seriously great stuff!
