Very bright when you first put batteries in it, but it fades relatively quickly. I don't think I've ever run it until it's completely dead - it will usually get so dim that I can't stand it anymore, then I replace the batteries. That being said, when it is fully bright it works great and is pretty compact. If you are looking to do more rigorous nightime activities and trailfinding, you might want something a little brighter. For fun trips and hanging around camp, this guy does the job well.
I have had many headlamps over the years as this outshines them all. It is bright and I mean blinding. Don't look straight into it or you may burn a hole in your retina. It's really lightweight and the batteries last long.
Very light and literally fits in the palm of your hand, good and bright but as another review notes there's a little light leak on the translucent sides. I think this improves your visibility to drivers and improves lighting for close in tasks. Additionally there's a little sliding diffuser lens that really reduces glare for reading. Overall, compact, bright and good features.
I have had this lamp for just over a year and it has worked perfectly! It is super light and very bright. I like that you can switch between the spot light and wide spread light. The only thing I dislike about this lamp is that there is significant light bleeding down towards my face. This is because the plastic housing unit for the lamp is translucent and so a lot of light escapes. Not a deal breaker, but certainly something I wish Black Diamond did not overlook.
Nice headlamp, plenty bright and very versatile. If I had to have one do it all headlamp this would be it. But I do have to stay that 4 LED Petzl is better for camping (proximity light) and larger AA Myo XP is better for trail running.
Petzl makes good quality products, and for the price of this you can not go wrong. I love all the additional options available for the tikka xp 2! Wish Moosejaw would carry them though. Such as the rechargeable lithium battery option. Used this for some Winter hiking recently. Loved it. Lit up my path when needed to, and the red light option is a nice touch when looking for the tent zipper at 3am and you do not want to wake the person next to you. Its compact, and does not require changing a bunch of stuff in order to have a red light or different focus for the light. I highly recommend this product for anyone.
I bought the Tikka XP 2 for my wife to replace her Tikka Plus 2. I'm now jealous because I still have the Plus 2. The XP 2 is significantly more powerful than the Plus 2. It's comfortable and highly functional. What more do you want?
