I have been using these boots for a little less than a year; they are wonderful. The fit is slightly wider than that of other boots, which is just right for me. They are true to size. They are very lightweight for their class, yet they are quite comfortable and they edge very well. The combination of a comfortable, lightweight, relatively stiff-soled boot is great for backpacking, hiking, and approaches. They also sufficiently kept out snow and other water. I really like these boots, and would probably replace them with another pair of the same kind when the need arises.
I bought these for Law Enforcement Special Operations after seeing how popular they got after being mentioned in the Bin Laden raid book. I wasn't sure what to expect but I have to say, they are the most comfortable things to have ever wrapped my feet. The soles are fairly wide and help with balance. The lacing system allows you to keep the bottom laces loose and tighten up around the ankles (or the other way around). They are completely water proof due to the goretex but this makes them a bit warm in summer conditions. I've beat the heck out of 'em since I bought 'em in 2012 and they're still going strong. Paired with a thick pair of Darn Tough socks in the winter and you're good to go! All my Salomons are awesome. GET 'EM!!
"surprisingly flexible and very comfortable to wear for long periods of time"
Bought these as the first pair I brought home my Dad fell in love with and now belong to him. What impressed me most about these boots is that if you crouch or bend the boot bends in such a way as to not squash your toes. I like the tread on the bottom and they are comfortable to wear for extended periods. Have not tried in wet conditions yet. Nicest looking goretex pair I have ever owned.
I bought these in April 2013. I think Salomon might have changed the midsole after I bought my pair. I tried a pair of Quests on after buying mine and they were uncomfortable.I’ve worn mine on all types of terrain and they stand up to various conditions well. They are suitable for dry trails and those that are sopping wet. I’ve comfortably carried 50 lb. loads and feel the boots are quite capable. The general fit of the boot is really unique for a backpacking boot. They flex as well as many light trail hikers. But, for really sharp terrain you may feel more rock edges than something with a really burly outsole. However, the flex and grip of the Quests are superb.I have noticed two drawbacks. First, they are warm. I prefer Gore-Tex liners, so I understand breathability suffers. But these are extra warm. Second, they take forever to dry. That said, these are still awesome boots.
