"A great, hardwearing pair of boots that have lots of life in them."
I bought my Quest 4D GTX about 2 years ago and I've done lots of pretty heavy hiking in them all over California and they are lasting really well with no obvious signs of wear.I am usually an 8.5 in my shoe size and I didn't have to make any adjustments with the Quest 4D. I've hiked over 25 miles a day in these boots and they are still comfy at the end of it. They don't feel too heavy on your feet and they don't smell even after lots of wear!We have treated the boots with waterproofing sprays and so on but this is just precautionary as they're fully Gortex and I'm just trying to preserve them all long as I can.I've occasionally got blisters on the backs of my heels when hiking up long climbs but adjusting my socks (and using a thinner inner pair) has always sorted this out.I can't say how these boots would hold up in very wet conditions and when I go back to the UK I will probably buy a different pair but I've used them when snow shoeing and had no problems with them at
"Great fit & feel but I got a defective one"
I loved these boots out of the box and they served me well on a 3-day hike in the (rocky!) Presidential Range of the White Mts in NH. I got a 7.5, which is my street shoe size, and it was plenty roomy enough in the toe box to be good on the downhills. Excellent grip, waterproof, great flexibility on lacing (I have a high instep so appreciated being able to have laces looser on top of foot & then tighter around the ankle).ONE BIG CAVEAT: After my 3-day hike, the rubber that wraps around the front of the shoe started coming loose. The good news: it's covered under Salomon's warranty & they are shipping me new boots for free.
I took my time in choosing the Salomon Women's Quest 4D GTX, and i'm satisfied with my purchase! My first time out turned from a 3 mile hike to a 11 mile hike on a whim, and I was very impressed with the overall performance of my boot. My ankles felt very supported while still having enough flexibility to scramble up to curious points with ease. The boot fits true to size, has a roomy toe-box (i have wide feet), has great ankle support, and the sole gives needed traction on slippery surfaces, steep inclines, in water, and on rock. The boots are gator compatible and are still lightweight and easily portable. The GTX adds another layer of waterproof security. Looking forward to trying them out further in various climates and terrains!
