This rope is a good buy for someone looking to purchase their first rope, especially at the price point. Its not to kinky out of the box and dosnt take too long to soften up and become easier to feed through belay devices whilst still being stiff enough to provide an easy clip. Dosnt have a middle marker which is a bit annoying but oh well. For primarily top roping or gym leading with the occasional outdoors lead or multi pitch you cant go too wrong by starting out with this rope
10.2 and 60M is the way to go for your first rope. This one is a great price. Sometimes, especially in the first months, this rope was a bit kinky. Also, it got fuzzy fairly quickly, and I use a rope bag. That being said, it held up remarkably to 5 years of sport climbing, outside of the fuzz.
One of the first things I noticed about this rope was that it is a little heavy. However, it's a 10.2 so I feel that is sort of expected. I have used it rappelling as well as with some top rope climbing. It's pretty snug in my black diamond atc but it fits. I've used other ropes that fit much tighter. First time out of the original packing gave me some trouble unraveling it. (I screwed up) But after a use it didn't even kink up too bad. I'd suggest this rope to beginners or anyone else for the most part. Solid and durable rope so far. Have some other friends who bought the same one and agree. I'll be sure to update if I run into different opinions on the rope.
I was so excited to get this rope and use it - My friends had their own gear, so I would always just borrow theirs. I got this rope as it was one of the cheapest on the market, but it did not decrease in quality. This is good quality rope, I love climbing with it outdoors and it stands the test of dirt, rain, and mud (though i wouldn't recommend you destroy it). It is long enough to fulfill my high-climbing needs :)
I would most definitely recommend this rope to anyone looking for a quality rope for the right price. I have climbed on several sterling ropes and they have yet to disappoint. The fall rating on this rope is great, it feeds great through an ATC, and doesn't pigtail all that much. Great for sport climbing, and allows for smooth clipping too. There is nothing I can find to complain about on this rope. Also, as a bonus, it's very affordable compared to similar ropes!
At 6om this rope is good value, nothing special though. I bought it as my first rope and its done well. The sheath shows a lot of signs of wear, and its a bit weighty, and stiff even still. But at the end of the day Its cheap and it'll catch you.
"This is a great rope for avid sport climbers."
The rope is light enough to carry to hike in climbing spots, flexible enough to fit into your ATC or belay device without too much effort and stretches to relieve you and your equipment from lead climb falls. I'm very happy with this rope, and the price is a plus for budget climbers and those entering the world of climbing. I was very happy with the first two days of climbing on this rope, and I'm looking forward to taking this rope out climbing all over California this summer. Highly recommended to novices and avid sport climbers.
After getting into climbing recently and having to purchase all of the gear it was great to find a rope at this price. I used it for the first time last weekend and it works great! It's not too heavy, and feels great. 60m was perfect for me! Love the pattern, looks great on the wall. I also used this for a 90ft rappel and worked great. If you want a good rope at an excellent price, get this rope!
I'm cheap, real cheap, so price always get's the first glance with me. But this is a climbing rope. This is my life we're talking about. So price isn't the only thing I care about. In short, this was the best combination of rating, size (had to be less than 11mm), length, and features (dry rope) and finally price (best price there was).It feels great in my hand, looks great on the wall, and won't let you die when you fall - or rip you out of your sockets either.
Just got this puppy yesterday and im in love. Great pattern and good feel. Ill be taking it to the crag soon so will report on stretch later on but right out the gate it worked well on my home wall. Fits perfect in my cinch too. Like all sterling ropes it has a dry core so thats a plus. HIghly recommend this for sport or trad.
