The Men's Paramount Peak Convertible Pant by The North Face or the cool kids say TNF. Updated, these are TNF's or The North Face's best-selling convertible pants, featuring modernized lines, bluesign fabric (socially responsible manufacturing processes), extra carrying capacity and improved durability. Perfect for day hikes, globetrotting, or just touring the Forest Preserve, these pants have an UPF of 30, DWR finish- water repellency, quick drying, partial elastic waist with belt loops, zip-fly, and a built in belt. Convertible into 10" shorts, with color coded leg zips, and secure zip pocket near the right hand pocket for all your hiding needs. These pants remind of the one time I wanted to hike the Grand Canyon, but I couldn't because our tour bus was leaving, or something worthless. I don't know, but the pockets on these guys are really classy. North Face made these out of 100% nylon faille fabric.

"I bought two!" 05/19/12
I took a risk and bought two pairs of these at the same time. I have another pair of North Face pants that weren't convertible so I knew the quality would be great. I'm really glad I went ahead and picked up both. They are perfect for travelling as you can start the day off early when it's a bit cooler then unzip the lower legs for the warmer afternoon hikes. The only negative I found is the top button doesn't hold that well, but that may be more due to me needing to lose a few pounds than it has to do with the quality of the product. Overall I definitely recommend these pants.
"Nice pants, priced a little high for the durability." 04/15/12
I've used these pants for hiking, camping, backpacking, and rock climbing. I like the look and fit. They are pretty functional with the velcro flap rear pockets, cargo pockets, and zip off legs.Slightly water repellant and dry quickly. I would recomend these for cool to warm weather. In cold your gonna need a base layer, and if its really hot they are gonna be to hot even when zipped off into shorts. Both cargo pockets are showing wear after about a year of use, and one has a small hole. It's from these areas being rubbed against rocks, etc while I have things in the cargo pockets like a compact digital camera. 5'10, 175 32in waist, Med fits well
"Great Backcountry Pants" 02/13/12
I wear these pants backpacking , there great ,the zip offs are great the slide right over the boots ! which i find very important cause who wants to have to take off the boots .They wick sweat which is a great feature to pants . overall love them and highly recommend them
"not the same pant quality" 01/25/12
I agree with those who do not like the new, cheapened version of these pants. The material is thinner, the buckle is a big step back from the previous version, and the fit is just not as good compared to the old version. the front pockets do not seem to be as deep as the pockets on the Paramounts I have had before. I loved the deep pockets. PLEASE bring back the older and MUCH better design and build. They were so much better than the current imitations. I would like to see the old style pant brought back, and indeed, I will buy another pair (or more) if you do!
"The best convertible (pants) money can buy!" 12/25/11
I've owned a few other zip-off, convertible pants, but these are by far my favorite! The material is very durable and dries super fast after those unexpected downpours. Great as pants, or shorts, and the built in belt is a nice feature. I like these so well I just ordered myself another pair for Christmas.
"Great versatile pant" 12/14/11
Since I bought my first pair these are the only backpacking\hiking pants I buy. Pricey yes but the material is tougher and heavier then the basic ripstop you get with most other convertibles, but still shed water and dry quickly. Zip off legs are great, you don't even have to remove them just unzip the knees and you get great added ventilation. Only problem I have had is the seam in the crotch and seat begins to separate after hard wear (two different pair), but this can be expected from scrambling down over rock. Still have always lasted the trips and given me plenty of time to have the seam repaired and strengthened on both pair.
"Comfortable" 10/24/11
I had the paramount shorts already and loved them so much I knew I had to get the pants. I wasn't disappointed either. They have the same great fit as the shorts. They easily convert to shorts and you can hardly tell they are convertible either. Very versatile, these will be my go to pants.
